Your Handbag And You

We choose our handbags based on color, size, shape and the beauty it projects.  When we are looking to purchase a new handbag, do we think first about function or fashion? Probably both, but when we see a handbag for the first time, we are immediately drawn to the "beauty quotient" of the bag.  This is understandable given that we are attracted to what we see with our eyes.

Handbags are the best accessories when it comes to making a statement. Do you really want to get noticed? Then carry a gorgeous and well made handbag!  A bag can make the difference. Why? Because handbags add an additional layer of chic to your outfit. Of course, one must first choose an outfit that will go well with the handbag, or vice-versa.  This is important.  

Nowadays, handbags and shoes do not have to match, but there has to be an element of "congruency" between the chosen outfit and the accessories.  Since most of us love our handbags, we sometimes start out with the bag (as the starting point), and then we proceed to build the outfit we plan to wear.  This is a good idea.

The handbag we carry says a lot about who we are.  Psychologically speaking, the handbag is such an important element of our wardrobe because, according to the experts,  it gives us a sense of security.  And the handbag is in a way, an extension of our own "self".

Our handbag not only contains those elements we definitely need to carry (keys, cell phone, money), but it may also contain those elements we "might" need (as in "just in case"), like aspirin, band-aids, pen and notepad, gum, even tooth-brush, etc.  

In our handbags we may also carry elements that hold special meaning to our existence, such as photographs of loved ones, a poem, a monogram handkerchief,  an old movie ticket, etc.  In essence, the handbag becomes a "portable treasure chest".

No matter how we may define or call our handbag, it is a dear friend to us.  One we can rely on always. One that when we place our gaze upon its beautiful shape, brings about that complacent smile of total contentment.
