Our Pleasure, of course!

As many a reader may know, most serious companies are so aware of the fact that their very existence depends on their loyal clients, that they will go to great extents to show how much they care about them.

The truth is, having a great product to sell is simply not enough. This is specially true of the luxury brands. Why? Because those who can purchase such wares, expect the very best; and this of course includes "how well they'll be treated".

When it comes to items to which we get "connected" on an emotional level, this is all the more relevant.

Women for example, make an emotional connection with their handbags, whether it be a $100 dollar bag  or a $10,000 dollar one. Thus, when a company understands this reality,  it shall treat her in the manner that she deserves -- denoting that she is valued not only as a customer but what is even more important, as a friend.

Several luxury purveyors make a point of this by sending "tokens" of appreciation to their loyal clientele. This is surely a good practice because it clearly reveals how much a loyal client means to them.

Inasmuch as we are concerned, we take great pride and enjoyment in knowing that our wonderful clients LOVE our handbags. This is the reason why we strive to let them know how much we truly value THEIR LOYALTY AND FRIENDSHIP!

Cheers!

CASA CALVET & THE CALVET CHAIR

Facade of "Casa Calvet" at Carrer de Caspe 48, L'Eixample District - Barcelona

Original drawings of the "Calvet Furniture" by Antoni Gaudi

Design has always been such an important part of the Calvet legacy.  Personally,  it brings me a great level of  comfort to know that beautiful form and functionality have always played such a role in the lives of my ancestors.  And this is precisely what I try to honour in each and every MARCELA CALVET handbag of my design.

Lately, some of my wonderful clients were asking me about the "CALVET CHAIR";  a superbly crafted design they had seen featured on several publications.  They were intrigued by the beauty and craftsmanship of  the chair; and they wanted to know if they were my designs too!

Whereas I do appreciate the notion that such masterfully created furnishings could be associated with me, I cannot take the credit for that, given that the original designs were the vision of Antoni Gaudi at the turn of the last century. Still, I cannot discard the idea that in the near future, I may decide to launch a line of fine furnishings as well; but for now, I shall continue bringing you the alluring handbags you have come to love so much!

The CALVET chair as it came to be known world-wide, and the other fine pieces of the same "ensemble", were created by famed Barcelona architect and designer Antoni Gaudi in 1902 for the Calvet branch of my family who resided in Barcelona. They were textile industrialists.

Mr. Gaudi is probably best known for the church of the "Sagrada Familia" in the city of Barcelona. His style was surely different, organic and new.  He designed several buildings, and among them is one of his most admired Masterpieces: the beautiful "CASA CALVET" which he created for the family.

Given his unique talents, the Calvet family commissioned him to also create a line of fine  furnishings for the house. Indeed, such a gorgeous house deserved only the most beautiful and "avant-garde" furnishings.   Incidentally, in the year 1900 CASA CALVET was named "Building of the Year" by the Barcelona City Council.  The five story building is indeed quite impressive!

The furnishings created for the home had to be a true work of art, and the end result was exactly that. Today, as it has been since the 1970's, some of these fine pieces continue to be exclusively reproduced as heritage classics by BD designs of Barcelona, Spain.

I hope you too will enjoy the photos I am presenting here; for they are quite beautiful! And if you find yourself visiting Barcelona, you may consider taking a stroll around the beautiful L'Exaimple district  where you will be able to take a closer look at the fabulous CASA CALVET.

If you'd like to learn more about "Casa Calvet" and the fabulous "Calvet Furnishings", here are some worthy links. Please see below.  Cheers!

AH! BUENOS AIRES - BUENOS AIRES

Hello friends! It is a chilly day here in
Newport today; so as I sit here at my
desk, writing this message to you; I am
longing for the long Summer days
in the Southern Hemisphere.

On that note of nostalgia,  I personally
wanted to give you the great news about
our "First Designer Showcase Trip
to Buenos Aires", which I shall be
hosting very soon!  All eight spots
have filled up much faster than
we anticipated!

I am so delighted!  It makes me very happy
to know that I'll get to introduce my
city of birth to those new friends who will
be joining me in fashionable BA.

This trip promises to be very special!
We shall keep ourselves very busy having
a glorious time.

We shall visit many of the great sites that
define my beautiful metropolis.
Also, we'll take a historic tour;
and we'll experience the vibe and the pulse
of  a city that honestly and literally, NEVER SLEEPS.

 We'll savour its delicious cuisine
along with the world-class wines Argentina produces!
(In case the "wine enthusiasts" are wondering,
 the "CALVET" wine label
- both in France and in Argentina -
was indeed founded by my ancestors.)

Oh! let's not forget our TANGO!
We'll get to watch the dance being fabulously danced
and  who knows . . . some of us might even dare to
partake in the dance of passion!

Of course, visiting the Ateliers of  some
of my distinguished colleagues in the Couture
scene is a given.  They will celebrate our visit by
showcasing their unique and fabulous
fashions just for us!

At the same time, my guests will get to
preview one of my very special handbag
collections launching in 2008!

I know we'll have a marvelous time together;
so, I am truly looking forward to enjoying
their company!

Saludos a todos,

   Marcela

P.S:  If this one turns out to be TOO much fun,
maybe we will do another one soon!
